Establishing connections in the community remains important to Paperflower Psychiatry. Paperflower Psychiatry, LLC was established in hopes of finding ways to better the global and local community. Resources go forth to ensure we can provide care to those who may not be able to receive adequate or prompt care elsewhere.
Oftentimes professionals exploit the most vulnerable for high amounts of money for "immigration" or "asylum" evaluations (up to $2,000). For people who may have few resources, this is significant. As Social Justice remains a significant value to us, we chose to offer our services in ways to better the global community.
We currently service the following pro-bono:
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU): The ACLU is a prominent national civil rights organization. Paperflower Psychiatry is an established expert resource for the ACLU if cases within Arizona require or would benefit from psychiatric evaluation.
The International Rescue Committee (IRC): The IRC provides needed services, support, community integration, housing, education, and financial empowerment to refugees. We aim to provide evaluations and care to those with referrals from the IRC, including survivors of torture, human trafficking survivors, refugees, undocumented people and asylum seekers.
The Florence Project: The Florence Project provides free social services and legal services to detained adults and children who face deportation. We provide evaluations if they may be beneficial to gaining asylum, progressing legal cases or supporting family reunification.
Physicians for Human Rights (PHR): PHR is a group of medical providers who offer pro-bono services and extensive evaluations to promote asylum for survivors of torture, mass atrocities, sexual violence, war or persecution. Maria is a volunteer expert within the asylum network.
Keep Tucson Together: Keep Tucson Together is a legal group that operates pro-bono to stop family separation and deportations. Paperflower has offered to take evaluations as needed to support cases to support asylum.
Phoenix Allies for Community Health (PACH): PACH is a project that has supported social justice and free care in Phoenix. Prior to COVID, Maria served as a director of behavioral health and offered free psychiatric care here. As needed, psychiatric referrals will be taken to Paperflower.
