A Sooner than Expected Maternity Leave

If you haven't heard, I was expecting a baby October 3rd.

My little peanut decided to come a little earlier, and was born on September 9, 2021 at 5lbs 15 ounces.

I had anticipated taking appointments up until October 1st, but this obviously changes things. I've received a plethora of unpleasant messages with complaints of inability to reach the office, me not replying, not being able to schedule an appointment, needing paperwork done last minute, etc.

So here's the announcement. My maternity leave started early.

Next year I'll be starting again full time, but for the time being, I do have a student with me on select Thursdays through the end of the year. She will be taking my appointments while I care for my infant.

Jon Frank, NP is covering for me for the majority of my patients. You can reach him at jon@paperflowerpsychiatry.com

Delfina is my assistant, and she is doing her very best to get all appointments rescheduled, take care of refills, pharmacy issues, etc. She is at her capacity. It may take some time for her to reply to you. You can always email her directly at Delfina@paperflowerpsychiatry.com

This was not an easy past few weeks for me. I was anticipating having a home birth in October. But unfortunately, my water broke followed by losing a lot of blood. I ended up in the hospital, was diagnosed with a placental abruption and was told I needed to be induced immediately. I had my baby at 36 weeks, I hemorrhaged and within an hour, my daughter turned blue and was taken from me for monitoring.

It's been chaotic. We've been attending a lot of doctor appointments for her, and for me.

I'm thrilled to have my baby home, and safe. I'm thrilled to be healthy.

I've prioritized your care, and your children's care for the past several months and/or years. At this time, I need to care for my child, my family and myself. This is a special point in my life, and for that, I ask for grace and respect.

At the same time, I've had such a great reach of support from sooo many of my patients and patients' families. For that, thank you! :)
